Welcome to Beech Tree
Farm!
Based at Ham, Near Sandwich, in
South East Kent we are a farm that specialises in
producing quality free range Pork, all our pigs are
pedigree Berkshire's which is a recognised rare breed.
The Berkshire pig breed
originated in the Thames Valley, in about 1790. The
breed was further improved in the 1800's by Lord
Barrington, and during the 19th Century the breed became
very popular, one noted Patron was Queen Victoria.
Many rare breeds suffered
serious decline due to changes in demand during World
War II and the development of commercial breeding
companies in the 1960's. This favoured the larger white
breeds and led to the commercial pig of today. However
due to a few dedicated stalwarts the Berkshire breed
survived.
The Berkshire is recognised as a
rare breed and is on the endangered list. As a members
of the British Pig Association and the Berkshire Pig
Breeders Club we are fully committed to producing top
quality breeding stock for the future, and in doing this
we also have the opportunity to produce traditional
pork, reared out doors, which provides quality meat with
plenty of taste. |
